Being Misunderstood & Living a Happy, Successful Life

Being Misunderstood & Living a Happy, Successful Life

Hey, hope your week went well. Summer is summering and I'm here for every bit of it. Nothing changes in terms of my work schedule (no vacations or such) but the weather is what I consider more optimal for human flourishing lol...basically enjoying the heat, all the more so as I've recently taking to boxing and a more intentional workout regime. Something about this time of the year is just naturally motivating. Am I alone in this, or do you feel the same? Let me know by responding to this email. Would love to hear from you. Here's your digest for this week. Hope you find these, inspiring and encouraging.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

“People don’t see the world as it is, they see it as they are.” - Unknown

If you’ve ever felt purposely misunderstood, this is why! Often when listening to someone speak, many hone in on one (or 2 at most) point(s), divorce it from its context, then bring in their own presuppositions, assumptions, ideas and beliefs into interpreting what the speaker is saying. In fact this can happen without fully listening to the speaker’s entire message. This often results in assuming motivations and in some cases, developing entire speculative narratives about the speaker. It takes great skill and humility to detach from a situation (as much as possible) and hear what the person is actually saying, not what you THINK they are saying. Sadly most people aren’t willing to do this difficult work as it might call for them to question and interrogate their presuppositions…perhaps even adjust misguided beliefs they’ve held for long. In your journey to living as God designed you to live, be prepared to be misunderstood.Be loving and patient with them, but don’t let anyone bully you into submission. God has called you to himself through Jesus Christ and has a specific mission for you. That mission is for you, so by default won’t be for everyone.Remember, people don’t see the world as it is, they see it as they are.Keep going!

VIDEO I ENJOYED THIS WEEK

17 Laws Of The Top 1%

Love him or hate him, Iman Gadzhi is a force to be reckoned with. In his 20s, he's already amassed multiple millions of dollars ($45M) through various online businesses. While I don't 100% agree with everything he says or does, there is a distinctive difference between him and other 20 year old online millionaires. Iman is firm but not brazen. Direct but not brash or crass. Slightly cocky but not overly showy. He seems levelled and this particular video, might be my favourite of his. This is how the Top 1% think.Watch by clicking the image.

SONG I ENJOYED THIS WEEK

Aqyila - Hello

Aqyila is a rising R&B star from Toronto. This song "Hello" recently went viral on Tik Tok - which is how I discovered the song. Can't remember the last time I was this happy with an algorithmic recommendation.Listen now by clicking the image.

BOOK/ARTICLE I ENJOYED THIS WEEK

Ray Dalio Says Living a Happy, Successful Life Comes Down to 3 Simple Things

Ray Dalio is a world renowed, Billionaire Hedge Fund founder. For someone who's amassed as much influence and capital as he has, you might think he values money more than many other things. Think again. I found this very helpful in clarifying what my path to entrepreneurial success could look like. Highly recommend reading this for both the entrepreneurial and non-entrepreneurial alike.Enjoy the article by simply clicking the image.
